A warm welcome to all visitors old and new to the Halifax Table Tennis Association website.

The Association which was founded in 1932 has like so many other Associations over the years seen many changes.  Our member clubs who made up the leagues consisted of works teams, youth clubs and other assorted groups who had the desire to participate in the sport as a healthy and enjoyable pastime.  After the war membership flourished locally as it did nationally and the number of teams in the leagues grew until in the eighties a decline set in.  This was a time when it became harder and harder to both generate interest in the playing of the game and to find members to work on the committee so that a halt to the slide could be achieved.  By the time the nineties arrived we in Halifax had the opportunity to co-operate with a former player, David Wood, who owned an industrial estate to rent an empty floor in one the units.   The prospect of paying rent on an large empty space and committing the Association to a number of years of hard work was very daunting but the opportunity was one that the foresight of the committee was to prove absolutely right.  It was certainly right about the amount of hard work, time and dedication that was needed.   However the formation of Halifax Table Centre was to provide the springboard for the regeneration of interest not only in the leagues but to provide facilities for the local community and schools to take up the sport.  Although we in Halifax would like to see more league players we are now able to see the development of our youth policy begin to show positive results.

We have recently become recognized as a registered charity and we hope to be able to further the sport in Calderdale for the benefit of all members of the community.  As a charity we are widening our horizons and hope that one way is for anyone interested in the sport to use the tax beneficial way of donations (Gift Aid) to the Association.
