JUNIORS & COACHING

ALL THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE TABLE TENNIS CENTRE

From our resident coach Alan Dickinson

Another new season is about to get underway and the Association is entitled to be proud of our progressive Junior and Cadet squads. Several of the current crop are now starting to make real progress on the local league front and will give the older regulars plenty to think about during the 2004/05 Winter League.

YORKSHIRE TRIALS - Halifax Table Tennis Centre (Saturday/Sunday 16th/17th October 2004)

JUNIOR SECTION

Halifax fielded three representatives in this section and all three acquitted themselves with credit. The final rankings of the Halifax trio from a field of thirty-six was as follows: Chris Kendall (14) Charles Holdsworth (21) Alex Giles (22). All three are expected to better next year with more experience under their belt.

CADET SECTION

Halifax fielded three representatives in this section and like the Juniors, the trio did not disappoint. In a huge field of forty-eight the following rankings were attained: Jonny Giles (9) James Berry (11) Tom Whiteley (18).

Well Done to all concerned.

INTER TOWN CADETS (YORKSHIRE LEAGUE)

Halifax have a very strong all-round Cadet team this year and they got off to a flyer on the first weekend, winning all three matches in style for the loss of only 4 sets. Lets hope they can finish the job off when the final weekend comes around early in the new year.

INTER TOWN JUNIORS (YORKSHIRE LEAGUE)

Halifax Junior trio, Elaine Li, Chris Kendall and Jonny Giles got off to a decent start in their quest for honours in the Inter-Town League at the beginning of December 2004, winning their first two games and narrowly losing out 6-3  to pre-title favourites York.

The most pleasing aspect was the combined mixture of footwork and use of spin throughout the nine-set contest, in this department the Halifax team stood up well to the consistent looping from the strongest squad in the competition. All three Halifax representatives managed to win a set but are going to need the York outfit to slip up on their travels if they are to take the title.
